The concluding panel discussed the challenges for the use of photovoltaics in desert regions.

PV Days 2016 at  Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaic CSP in Halle (Saale) centered on the potential applications of photovoltaics in extreme climates. During the two-day conference around 150 experts exchanged on the most important trends of the global markets in photovoltaic industry and the latest research results.

For the third time, PV Days brought together leading experts from research facilities and industry at Fraunhofer CSP. About 150 participants from 14 countries were present this year, with a total of 37 companies and 22 research institutes / universities represented at the conference

Among the topics discussed in the lectures were wafer technology, plasma modeling, building-integrated photovoltaics, novel concepts for interconnections as well as passivation and light-induced degradation. In addition, participants were able to inspect the Fraunhofer CSP laboratories during guided tours.

Two sessions were devoted to the use and yield potential of photovoltaic plants in extreme climates. These questions were also the focus of the final panel discussion with discussants Benjamin Figgis (Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute QEERI), Dr. Ian Bennett (DSM Surfaces e.V.), Florian Holzapfel (Calyxo Gmbh) and Zakaria Naimi Institute of Research in Solar Energy and New Energies IRESEN).
