No Growth Without Quality Assurance – PV Days 2023 Discuss the Requirements for Sustainable Growth of the German PV Industry
Around 50 participants experienced a vibrant restart of the PV Days on November 15–16. With a stronger regional focus, the annual research and industry workshop hosted by Fraunhofer CSP aims to establish itself as the central meeting point for the (Central) German solar industry. Responding to this invitation to Halle (Saale), representatives from around 25 different industry partners and research institutions gathered to discuss the challenges of the rapidly expanding PV capacity in a series of inspiring presentations.
Quality issues specifically related to polymers were addressed, as well as the risks manufacturers face when purchasing inadequately tested materials, cells, and components.
Experts in metrology methods and equipment presented effective and cost-saving approaches to quality assurance. On the other hand, module manufacturers emphasized the importance of applying these methods in a product-specific manner and in accordance with clearly defined standards to meet the demands of a highly competitive market.
Two additional key contributions highlighted that major installation errors and, above all, the grid capacities—which are far too low compared to the speed of PV expansion—pose serious threats to the sustainable success of the solar energy industry.
For Fraunhofer CSP, the event once again provided a valuable exchange of experiences with its partners and customers, serving as a strong motivation to further develop its research services in line with market-oriented needs.
